About Me

Hi, I’m Wei Lynn.

I didn’t set out to work in communication. I started by asking questions.

I was born and raised in Malaysia, and began my career in a homegrown bank before pivoting – somewhat by chance – into business journalism. It turned out to be one of the most defining chapters of my life.

In my late 20s, after persistently applying, I moved to Beijing and realised a childhood dream of being on television. My job gave me the beautiful opportunity to meet and interview people from all walks of life.

Later, during my MBA, I chose to spend my summer internship in Ghana – to experience a different way of living beyond what I had read, just as I had when I first moved to China.

Over the years, often without realizing it, I've spent thousands of hours in conversation with people.

I've shared local liquor with farmers in rural China (sometimes without a shared dialect). I developed a soft spot for yam fries and Afrobeats while in Ghana. I've slept in a car by the Yangtze River covering breaking news.

And through it all, I’ve seen how one thoughtful exchange can shift a perspective, build confidence, and open unexpected doors.

My background, briefly

What I believe

  • Self-awareness, reflection, and the art of asking questions are underrated life skills.

  • The ability to make others feel seen is a wonderful feeling. If you can give something to others, give them the quality of your attention.

  • In being a good person first, and then doing good work – even when no one is watching.

  • We’re often more capable than we think. A willing heart takes you far.

  • I’ve tried to not give up on living a good and meaningful life – on my own terms.

  • Reporter at CGTN (TV), BFM (radio), The Edge (print)

  • Commercial banking, CIMB Group

  • MBA at CEIBS (Shanghai & Rotterdam)

  • Author of bilingual book (I'm) Still Growing: One Phrase at a Time

If you think I might be helpful — for a conversation, a talk, or a collaboration — feel free to reach out. I’d love to hear from you.
